Begin your journey towards healing today
A message from Sarah Martin-Werntz,
If faced with two paths in life, most of us would not select the one filled with hardship. Yet, it is part of the human experience that we endure seasons and even years filled with confusion and pain. At times we are able to work through these weighty seasons on our own and at other times we need someone to walk with us. It is a privilege to journey with clients through difficult seasons and years towards healing and wholeness. I look forward to making the journey with you.
Counseling and Clinical Services

EMDR Therapist
I have over 10 years of experience using EMDR and EMDR-based protocols to help clients with traumatic events and long-term adverse experiences. I offer in-person EMDR therapy in Abilene, TX, EMDR Intensives (3-6 hour sessions), and virtual EMDR therapy across Texas.

Virtual Therapy
I provide both virtual and in-person therapy sessions. Many prefer virtual therapy for its convenience, allowing them to fit it into busy schedules without commuting. Clients also appreciate the comfort and privacy of being at home rather than in an unfamiliar building and waiting room.

I am a Texas board-approved clinical supervisor for LMSWs seeking a clinical license. I am located in Abilene, TX but am able to provide virtual clinical supervision throughout Texas. Email for availability and current rates.

What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR therapy, known as “Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy,” is a proven therapeutic approach offering significant benefits for individuals facing various psychological challenges and traumatic experiences. Through collaborative sessions, you will embark on a structured journey to relieve distressing symptoms and foster emotional healing.
The EMDR therapy process involves eight distinct phases and draws upon elements of cognitive therapy, exposure therapy, and bilateral stimulation techniques. Bilateral stimulation, achieved through eye movements, sounds, or physical tapping, plays a central role in EMDR. This stimulation activates the brain’s innate healing mechanisms, facilitating the reprocessing of troubling memories and emotions in a secure and controlled setting.
The primary objective of EMDR is to promote the adaptive processing of past traumatic experiences or distressing memories by reorganizing how these memories are stored in the brain. Through this transformative process, negative beliefs, emotions, and sensations associated with the traumatic event can be modified and replaced with more positive and adaptive thoughts and feelings.
EMDR therapy is particularly effective for individuals who experienced traumatic incidents like accidents, assaults, or natural disasters. It also relieves anxiety, depression, phobias, addiction, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
In our sessions, we will work together to target memories affecting your challenges, using EMDR techniques to desensitize and reprocess these memories for emotional relief and new insights
What is EMDR Intensive Therapy?
The challenges of time, travel, financial considerations, and emotional bandwidth can often impact the therapeutic process. I offer an innovative approach designed to maximize progress and achieve profound results within a condensed time frame. EMDR Intensive Therapy can be tailored specifically to your needs, ensuring we optimize the therapeutic process and make the most of your resources. I create a focused and immersive experience allowing for significant progress by condensing the treatment into a shorter time span.
The EMDR Intensive Therapy can be conducted in two different ways:
- Multiple Consecutive Days: This option involves consecutive days of therapy, ranging from 4-6 hours per day. By dedicating uninterrupted time to the therapeutic process, we can delve deep into the work, accelerating your progress and promoting transformative change.
- Ongoing Clusters: Alternatively, I offer the option of organizing therapy sessions in 3-hour clusters. These clusters can be scheduled to suit your availability and allow for ongoing treatment while still achieving the benefits of an intensive approach.
You may have a therapist providing weekly support but are looking to add EMDR as an adjunct therapy. My EMDR Intensive Therapy can be seamlessly integrated as an adjunct to your existing therapy experience. It serves as a powerful complement to your ongoing treatment, allowing for a deeper exploration of targeted issues and accelerating your progress toward lasting change.
Treatment Approaches
I apply various treatment modalities to address mental health and relationship issues, including: EMDR, EMDR Intensives (3-6 hour sessions), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive behavioral therapy, Strengths-based approach, Attachment-focused therapy, Sandtray, Motivational interviewing, and Person-centered therapy.
What to Expect
I work together with my clients to identify manageable and tangible steps towards healing and wholeness. This will often include: building coping skills between session; paying attention to mind, body and feelings; employing mindfulness and EMDR-based grounding strategies; planning and taking steps towards a desired goal; setting healthy boundaries with others.
